WAKEFIELD, R.I. (January 5, 2011) – ChartWise Medical Systems, Inc., an innovative Computer-Assisted Clinical Documentation Improvement (CACDI) software company, today announced it has been acknowledged with the Providence Business News Excellence Award for Entrepreneurship. ChartWise was selected for this honor by a panel of its peers not only for the tremendous success the organization has seen in 2011, but also for its commitment to the local community.
Dr. Jon Elion founded ChartWise in May of 2009 in an effort to advance healthcare through improved clinical documentation. He recognized physician documentation to be the cornerstone of accurate coding and that without precise documentation significant reimbursement compensation would be lost. The organization’s flagship product, ChartWise:CDI, leverages sophisticated programming techniques to provide a web-based, simple-to-use and easily learned software application for properly coding physicians’ diagnoses so as to maximize reimbursement and improve documentation quality.
“Hospitals have been facing tremendous financial strain as of late and are always looking for ways to increase revenue while avoiding budget cuts,” said Dr. Elion. “We saw a clear market and demand for a product that would improve clinical documentation and thereby increase reimbursement rates so we committed ourselves to creating a system that would ensure everything is properly accounted for. Here we are a few years later and it feels incredibly rewarding to know that we’ve constructed a product that has enabled us to be honored with the Excellence Award for Entrepreneurship by Providence Business News. ChartWise:CDI was the first CACDI software on the market, and is still the only truly comprehensive product featuring built-in expertise from a rules engine with over 34,000 proprietary procedures and suggestions to help find further diagnoses.”
In addition to serving as President and CEO of ChartWise, Dr. Elion also sets a few days aside each month to volunteer his time and services at The Miriam Hospital in Rhode Island where he teaches and provides patient care. He also serves on the combined Board of Trustees at Miriam and Rhode Island hospitals and their combined Finance Committee. This puts him in a unique position to see the healthcare industry from the perspective of a physician, trustee, and vendor.
The Business Excellence Awards are one of the area’s longest-running and most well-known business recognition programs. 2011 marks the 11th year Providence Business News has honored organizations and individuals for excellence, leadership and community involvement.
